Peel Park Primary School Council

What do we do?

A School Council is a group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve their school. 

The objective of an effective School is to help children and young people to:

• enjoy and feel empowered by their education
• feel that their school responds to their needs and views
• have the opportunity to let adults know their feelings and opinions about things that affect them
• have a say about decisions, and to play an active role in making their school a better place
• develop life skills through participation

The School Council at Peel Park Primary School consists of a team of extremely active, dedicated and well organised children. The members of the council take their roles very seriously and, as a result of their hard work, have orchestrated and coordinated positive changes within the school. Children vote for other children in their year group from a range of nominees: they vote for 1 per class. The school council is led by a Chair and Vice Chair who are chosen by the elected council members. We also have teacher representatives who help to facilitate the meetings. The school council helps to provide a voice for all pupils and it aims to meet at least once every half term. 

The School Council Vision Statement

1. Our school council works together as a team to ensure we can be the best school possible by discussing ideas and making decisions.
2. We aim to make pupils feel comfortable, happy and safe at school.
3. We aim to listen to others and discuss comments and suggestions that would make our school an even more wonderful place.
4. We shall work hard to make our world a better place.

During the past few years, the school council have helped to improve the school environment and grounds, suggested fun activities during school time, raised money for charities and worthwhile causes and also been involved in the interview process for new staff.
